The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present: The result being the does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and he dies having never really lived.”
What happened to getting excited at the end of the day, because you are meeting with friends for a chat around a few drinks or to go practice some sports? The day goes by so fast that we wish mother earth would slow down a bit to add a couple of hours to her 24 hour cycle.
Did you know that "time" is the number one excuse given to Coaches by their client, for not achieving a goal. Creating the right Work/life Balance is about making the right personal management choices. Wrong prioritizing and wrong spontaneous choices will reduce the effective use of "your time". Procrastination is another element that works against satisfactory work/life balance.
You sleep, work, sleep, work, and nothing else?
You check your email on week-ends - are you expected to?
Your boss works on week-ends - Does it mean you have to?
A co-worker is having a problem you know how to solve - Does it have to be you?
Gym or late meeting: does the personal aspects in your life take a second priority level?
You are declining invitations to go out - Too exhausted mentally to switch to play time?
You have no time for a decent relationship - or - your work is jeopardising your love life?
